The desktop app is serviceable but the only way to access other iCloud apps such as Photos or Mail on Windows is through a browser, which is less than ideal. So, while iCloud will be very appealing to Mac and/or iPhone users, we find that it doesn’t work that well on PCs running Windows. As is usually the case with Apple software, it works great within the confines of their ecosystem, but when you move away from macOS and iOS, it starts to feel very dated and cumbersome. Let’s start off with Apple’s iCloud Drive storage – what exactly does it offer that other services don’t? ![]() This is where some additional features come in, and that’s what we’ll be taking a look at below. On the other hand, if you actually do need a lot of storage space and are willing to pay for it, all of the services listed above have very appealing plans, but there are a few more factors to consider apart from the storage capacity and pricing. However, if 15 GB just isn’t enough and you’re looking for something better while still not wanting to spend too much, you’ll be pleased to know that iCloud, OneDrive, and Google Drive are all viable options, with plans ranging from 50 GB to 200 GB at anywhere from $1 to $3 per month. GOOGLE DRIVE VS DROPBOX FOR MAC HARDDRIVE SPACE FREESo, as you can see, the four dominant cloud storage providers offer a number of storage options with varied pricing, so there’s something to suit everyone’s needs.Īs far as free cloud storage is concerned, Google definitely has the lead, as 15 GB of free storage is bound to be more than enough for those who only want to back up some essentials and don’t really need a lot of storage space. GOOGLE DRIVE VS DROPBOX FOR MAC HARDDRIVE SPACE DOWNLOADThey either have to download each file individually, or or they have to download the g-drive app and you have to share a folder with them which seems confusing to some people.First, let’s get the most important stuff out of the way – how much storage does each service offer, and for how much money? Service So for sharing files for download I would say it's not very user-friendly, but if you're dealing with technical people who understand how it works it can be fine. GOOGLE DRIVE VS DROPBOX FOR MAC HARDDRIVE SPACE ZIPIt may not be the fastest, but it seems pretty robust to me.īut that's with one huge caveat - Google will force you to zip any multiple file download and that can take forever. I haven't had issues with syncing or large downloads. Sometimes there's glitches and I have to login with TeamViewer to restart it, but pretty infrequentlyįinally, the fact that many people work on Google Docs and Google Sheets now allows me to have one folder with all paperwork and files for a project on Google Drive. On Mac, over the past few years I've had very little problems with exporting video files directly to a Google drive folder which then uploads after I've left. ![]() I also find its folder / directory system is better than other products. It also has essentially YouTube video abilities (with some frustrating issues like not being able to create a thumbnail). I like GDrive because it is easier to share things and unshare them with specific users. Fair disclosure, I got grandfathered in with unlimited storage (or maybe 10tb, in typical Google fashion it's unclear) so any other system is a hard sell for me. I'll be the one supporter of Google Drive here. Everyone who provides a thoughtful comment will get an upvote because I value your insight even if I don't agree with it.īonus question: Is there a solution I could integrate with my website to make things look even more professional? It would be easiest to have both but I really don't want to pay for both. I am thinking about paying $10 per month for 2Tb on Google Drive instead (I currently have 100Gb on Google Drive). I am currently paying $10 a month for 1Tb on Dropbox. For projects that I know will generate really large file sets, I ask clients to buy a hard drive. I would just stay with Dropbox if I weren't getting complaints that (1) Dropbox asked them to buy something/pay money, or (2) I could only see the first 15 minutes of the video. I use Vimeo to transfer finished videos to clients unless they need a particular format. A typical project is 40-100Gb but there really are no typical projects so I need to be flexible. I know this question was asked here a couple years ago but the world has evolved a bit since then.Ībout me: I am a DP/Director/Editor so I need to be able to both send and receive large sets of files. This question for people who need 1Tb or more online storage to allow clients to access files. ![]()
